Amyloid beta - Amyloid beta (Aβ or Abeta) is a protein fragment of 39-42 amino acids that is the main constituent of amyloid plaques in various neurological disorders, most prominently Alzheimer's disease. It is the product of protease activity of the secretase enzymes on amyloid precursor protein (APP).
Amyloid - Amyloid describes various types of protein aggregations that share specific traits when examined microscopically. The name amyloid comes from the early mistaken identification of the substance as starch (amylum in Latin), based on crude iodine-staining techniques.
Amyloid degeneration - Amyloid degeneration is a type of degeneration with the deposit of lardacein in the tissues. It indicates impairment of nutritive function and is seen in wasting diseases.
Congophilic angiopathy - Congophilic angiopathy, also known as cerebral amyloid angiopathy, is a form of angiopathy in which the same amyloid protein associated with Alzheimer's disease (Amyloid beta) is deposited in the walls of the blood vessels of the brain. The term congophilic is used because the presence of the abnormal amyloid protein can be demonstrated by microscopic examination of brain ...
Amyloid Treatment and Research Center - Contains information about their program, personnel, publications, how to send biopsy material, and how to get to the Boston Medical Center.
Indiana University Amyloid Research and Treatment Center - This site defines amyloidosis and describes current research as well as treatment options. It also introduces the personnel and facilities of the center.
Hecht Lab - Research paper covering work on amyloid proteins aims to understand how protein misfolding and aggregation can cause human disease.
