Charity Organization Society - Founded in 1869, in Great Britain, the Charity Organisation Society (COS) played a major role in making social work a profession. The Society's emphasis on advocacy and the systemization of methods, along with its focus on the family, and on a scientific approach created a foundation for the development of social work in Britain and the United States.

Fraunhofer Society - The Fraunhofer Society (German Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft) is a German research organization named after the German physicist Joseph von Fraunhofer, with 58 institutes spread throughout Germany, each focusing on different fields of applied science, as opposed to the Max-Planck-Gesellschaft, which works primarily on basic science.
